Hi

I'm returning to wargaming after a ten year hiatus. Have collected a 3,000 point empire warhammer fantasy army and am keen to find opponents for it. Army is big enough that I can split it into two well balanced 1,500 point forces if necessary. Collecting 40k as well but nowhere near being able to field a decent force.

If anyone would like a game, please let me know and I will pop along. Have plenty of terrain as well as all the rules, templates etc required.

Cheers

Perry Plastic Prussian Infantry 1813-15

http://theminiaturespage.com/news/438355/

The most common question we've been asked over the last two years is, quite rightly, 'when are you going to make Prussians!' At last, they're here! Well, the three-up's for the plastics are, anyway. These are in the tooling process at the moment, so we have no release date.

The set will comprise 40 Line Musketeers/Grenadiers, plus a detachment of six Volunteer Jaegers which were often attached to regiments. The 40 infantry will give you a full-strength battalion at 20:1 (for man-sized games), although we will be making the command frame available to buy separately too (direct from us) for those who use a different ratio. This is something we'll be doing for the other Napoleonic sets.

I've gone for the traditional march-attack pose for the line infantry and, as they're advancing at speed, I've made the Jaegers 'at trial', firearms in one hand and their Hirschlangers in the other (!). There will be a metal conversion pack to make the musketeers/grenadiers into fusiliers, too. A metal range will accompany this plastic set, and will possibly be available prior to this set.

There will be enough heads with covered shakos for all the figures in the box. In addition, there will be heads with the Line Feldmutze and peaked Schirmutze for the Jaegers, as some units had them. Likewise, the Jaeger belly pouch is separate, as some Volunteer Jaeger units had them. With all the faces, I've tried to give them a Germanic look.

Most figures are in three pieces, as we realize people like to build up units quickly, so you'll get head, equipment (knapsack, haversack, cartridge box, short sword and half the greatcoat are in one piece) and body to put together.

The command frame comprises one officer, one standard bearer, one drummer and an NCO.

As soon as we have finished sprues, I'll put them up on our website and TMP.

As with buses, you wait a long time and then two arrive at the same time. It's the same with Prussians! As you'll see, there are alternative plastic Prussians available at a website near you…

We have rough release dates for the Mercenary Wars of the Roses plastic set and ACW Zouaves. The Mercenary box will be available in November, and the Zouaves in February.

In a week or so's time, I'll be showing another plastic set I've been working on.

After the somewhat trying weeks I've had over the summer, it's a relief to finally be able to announce the contents of your favorite red-top (and sides and bottom, too!). Publication is scheduled for Monday, 30th August, which is also the date when all the digital subscriptions will be sent out.

Waiting in vine
Diane Sutherland shows us how to make vintage vineyards.
Forward Observer
Siggo has plenty to discuss, including A Very British Civil War, tufty turf, a new regular shortlist of product highlights, and the joys of playtesting late 19th century European wargame rules.
The passing of Paddy Griffith
John Drewienkiewicz and Richard Clarke provide moving obituaries for the much-loved historian and wargamer who died this summer.
Paddy's last hurrah
Paddy Griffith submitted an article to me just weeks before he died. I could think of no better tribute than to publish his report of what turned out to be his final Duxford WWII kriegsspiel of Operation Weserübung, the German invasion of Norway.
Painting the little blighters
Canadian Bob Barnetson shows us how to accomplish mass armies in short shrift with this masterclass in 6mm painting.
Test flying Bag the Hun 2
Air wargamer Tim Beresford gives an extended review of the Lardies' Battle of Britain rules, with a couple of scenarios that will have you scrambling your Spitfires and Hurricanes in no time.
Table top teaser: cavalry encounter, or "What marsh?"
C. S. Grant produces a cavalry commander's dream, with hundreds of horse galloping hither and thither in unpredictable terrain.
Simplicity in practice
After extolling the virtues of simple rules last issue, author Neil Thomas serves up a magnificently straightforward but subtle set of horse and musket rules.
Recce
A plethora of new goodies reviewed by our team, including 1:72 hard-plastic Russians from The Plastic Soldier Company Ltd, All the King's Men 54mm War of 1812 figures, the Repique Zouave rules, Area9 15mm wargames scenery, Bolt Action 28mm WWII metal miniatures, a large American Civil War book from Casemate, Astounding Adventures scenarios, the new Spencer Smith 30mm Franco-Prussian War figures, an imagi-nations novel, (come on, keep up!), Waterloo Netherlands Correspondence, Helion 28mm Austro-Prussian War figures, Gripping Beast plastic Vikings, an Osprey and a General de Brigade Ottoman scenarios book. Phew!
The Battlegames Combat Stress Appeal: an update on the progress of the Appeal which has now raised over £7,500.00 GBP.
Events for September/October 2010, compiled by Tricks of the Newark Irregulars.
The Battlegames shop, featuring all the new digital products as well as those on paper.
A Competition to win those Area9 15mm scenic items worth nearly £60.00 GBP!
And messages from your favourite wargames companies. (Well, some of them...)

12 alcatani pikemen, with command
12 rico's republican guard with command
30+ Leopolds leopard guard
12+Pirazzos lost legion
General on foot and mounted (x2)
Paymaster (x2)
4 10 man unit of crossbows
5 Vesperos vendetta
Mage
6 Ogla Khans wolf boys
5 Al muktars desert dogs
6 Ogres
5 Volands Venators
20 Dwarves
20+ Long Drongs Slayer Pirates
10+ Lumpins Halflings archers
20+ Halfling Archers
5 Birdmen of Catrazza
3x Bronzinos galloping guns

So I have something to start with, as a lot of that is painted
They all need touching up and I have enough figures to extend the force out by over 1000 points, so I could have some fun here

Although the figures are character units i am going to play them as Dogs of War rather than the quirky and expensive Regiments of Renown, and to be honest those a are a bit pricey
So whats my first list, which will be used in my first game with Russ.

Given that the level of expectation is now reaching fever pitch it is time to release details of the 2010 Madgamers Memorial Shield Tournament...

Date: Sunday 10th October 2010

Venue: To be confirmed by the club committee

800 points Warhammer Fantasy 8th edition tournament

Club members and former members are welcome to enter the tournament - please do so by posting the name of your army and its race in the tournament entrants thread

Tournament format:
- 3 rounds (3 games for each participant)
- Each game to be played against a single opponent
- In the first round opponents will be randomly allocated
- In subsequent rounds participants will play against players with a similar level of accumulated victory points
- The winner will be the player with the most victory points after three rounds. If there is no clear winner after three rounds one final game will be played to determine the winner

Tournament rules:
- Each entrant's army is limited to no more than 800 points and should be selected according to the Warhammer Fantasy 8th edition rules
- The current army book (codex) for your army should be brought to the tournament
- Army lists should be finalised and posted on the appropriate forum thread no later than 3 October 2010
- Armies including unpainted, purely undercoated or barely painted models may suffer a victory points deduction
- Non Games Workshop models can be used
- Models should clearly represent the unit type shown on the army list, or the player should inform his opponent of models that 'count as' something different before the game starts.
- Special characters can be fielded as long as the army list is valid
- The normal magic rules apply except that references to 2D6 should be replaced with 1D6 in relation to power and dispel dice generation. The default magic system does not scale up or down according to army size so this change has been made in the interests of game balance. Please post any queries relating to this in the rules queries thread
- Normal victory point rules apply, except that there may be a scenario specific bonus for achieving an objective
- After each game the two players shall jointly complete a results sheet and return this to the organiser
- The scenario for each game will be posted onto the relevant forum thread before the end of September 2010
- All participants get to vote on the best painted army (painted by the player using the army)
- The decisions of the organiser, club committee and any designated helpers are final!

General stuff:
- Other activities will take place at the tournament venue so you will be able to play other wargames after the tournament has concluded (including a not to be taken seriously multi-player Warhammer bash using armies fielded in the tournament)
- There is likely to be a small admission/tournament entry charge to cover costs of holding the tournament, to be confirmed by the club committee
- This post will be updated as necessary so please revisit this post occasionally if you intend to participate in the tournament

The set contains a compact version of the new edition rulebook, templates, some dice, oh and some Skaven and High Elves miniatures. See link below:

If anybody is thinking of purchasing this boxed set and wants only part of the contents please feel free to post below and if you're lucky somebody else would like the stuff you don't want so you can split the cost and contents of the boxed set.

Me personally I'm particularly interested in getting the new rulebook, templates and Skaven miniatures. I'm less interested in the High Elves figures. I would consider purchasing an extra set of the Skaven miniatures (even more Skaven to paint ).
